Reiki, like Shiatsu, is a form of healing energy work that comes to us from Japan. Reiki is a Japanese conji depicting two concepts: Rei roughly translates to mean healing power, Ki means life force energy. So Reiki is a healing practice utilizing life force energy. An integral concept of Asian philosophy and medicine, Ki (or chi) is thought to be what gives each of us life; it permeates all life. To use this force, Ki, to help heal or make whole is basic to Reiki and Shiatsu; it is the cornerstone of Traditional Asian medical theory. Reiki is a form of hands on healing widely practiced in this country. The work is beneficial to most any ailment. In fact, in some innovative hospitals, Reiki is being introduced as an adjunct to medical intervention. As Ki permeates all life, the work of Reiki impacts mind, body and spirit. It is wonderfully simple in application, and the results are calming and useful for de-stressing. After a session people report a sense of being spiritually uplifted, of feeling lighter, calmer, and more grounded. Sifting through the web, there are many stories of Reiki and its developer, Mikao Usui, and what is most important to know is that the work is still evolving. Even so, it is a safe, hands on healing approach that leaves both you the client and the practitioner feeling centered and balanced. What
