Reiki, like Shiatsu, is a form of healing energy work that comes to us from Japan. Reiki is a Japanese conji depicting two concepts: Rei roughly translates to mean healing power, Ki means life force energy. So Reiki is a healing practice utilizing life force energy. An integral concept of Asian philosophy and medicine, Ki (or chi) is thought to be what gives each of us life; it permeates all life. To use this force, Ki, to help heal or make whole is basic to Reiki and Shiatsu; it is the cornerstone of Traditional Asian medical theory.

Reiki is a form of hands on healing widely practiced in this country. The work is beneficial to most any ailment. In fact, in some innovative hospitals, Reiki is being introduced as an adjunct to medical intervention. As Ki permeates all life, the work of Reiki impacts mind, body and spirit. It is wonderfully simple in application, and the results are calming and useful for de-stressing. After a session people report a sense of being spiritually uplifted, of feeling lighter, calmer, and more grounded.

Sifting through the web, there are many stories of Reiki and its developer, Mikao Usui, and what is most important to know is that the work is still evolving. Even so, it is a safe, hands on healing approach that leaves both you the client and the practitioner feeling centered and balanced.

What is a Reiki Treatment?
A Reiki session is done with clothes on, as no oils are used. The practitioner may lay hands directly on you or a few inches above your body. The treatment includes working from head to toe, and the session lasts about an hour. Reiki is a force of energy that flows through the practitioner and into you. In this way, you and practitioner work together, as your body absorbs what is needed, and with skilled awareness, the practitioner moves hands to other areas, allowing the Reiki to balance and harmonize.

Reiki Training
We offer 3 levels of training at Integral Body Therapy and all are welcome to learn. Each level includes training to understand the concept of Ki and how it can be applied using the protocols in Reiki. We encourage students to learn, practice, and allow Reiki energies to become integrated before moving on to the next training level. Reiki offers two unique methods of energy healing: one is training in Reiki symbols. The symbols help to focus the practitioner’s mind during a session. Unique also is an attunement ritual. The attunement is a transmission of Ki from teacher to student. While this may sound foreign to the western mind, the significance is not to be taken lightly, as this touch from the teacher directly impacts the abilities of the student to do the work of Reiki.
